As the summer sun makes Greenwich sing, the Royal Borough is the place to be for family events, activities and staycations this summer.

Events for kids and families

Eltham Palace Medieval Season

1. Enjoy archery, jester workshops, storytelling and more during Medieval Season at Eltham Palace and Gardens (pictured).

2. Let your little ones loose in the kitchen on 12 August, with the Sticks’n’Sushi Kids Masterclass.

3. Head down to Woolwich’s General Gordon Square for the food, featured artists and frolics of Holiday Fun Friday, every Friday until 8pm during the summer holidays as part of Woolwich Lates.

4. The National Maritime Museum is the palatial setting for wonderful outdoor and indoor family activities in the Summer of Play.

5. Every Wednesday in August, Charlton House and Gardens hosts Holiday Explorers – storytelling, games, and other fun for five- to twelve-year-olds.

6. A summer of free family activities has just started at Woolwich Works! There's something for everyone across dance, theatre, comedy and live music.

7. Follow Farragh the Fox as she scooters across Greenwich, hitting multiple green spaces across August and September for the outdoor fun of Fox Park.

8. Kids will love picking and piecing together their new best friends in the Teddy Workshop at IFS Cloud Cable Car.

9. Greenwich’s Royal Observatory runs special summer-holiday sessions for families, Observatory Unlocked, on select dates throughout August.

10. Check out the Greenwich Family Arts Festival programme run by Tramshed in Greenwich Park. Jam packed with fun, entertaining, outlandish and extraordinary events to suit all tastes and all ages, and every event is free!


Activities for kids and families

Peter Harrison Planetarium

11. Families always love the Cutty Sark – exploring this perfectly preserved tea clipper, learning about the golden age of sail and even clambering aloft in a Rig Climb.

12. Family-friendly highlights of the National Maritime Museum include the AHOY! Children’s Gallery and the Great Map.

13. Planetarium Shows at the Royal Observatory’s Peter Harrison Planetarium (pictured) are a must for budding astronomers.

14. Take a trip on the river and involve your kids in a game of ‘eye spy’ with a difference, spotting all the famous landmarks! Regular services are run by City Cruises, Thames River Sightseeing and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers.

15. Head to Greenwich Peninsula for 1980s-style Crazy Golf modelled on famous courses such as Augusta and St Andrews at CrazyPutt Adventure Golf.

16. The O2 offers families so much more than concerts: indoor trampolining at Oxygen Freejumping; indoor skydiving with iFLY London; ten-pin action at the Hollywood Bowl; blockbusters at Cineworld; and footballing nirvana at TOCA Social. Plus, you can even climb the iconic roof with Up at The O2.

Maryon Wilson Animal Park

17. Summer is the time for families to make the most of Greenwich’s parks and open spaces: flying a kite on Blackheath; scaling Severndroog Castle in Oxleas Woods; family gardening workshops in Lesnes Abbey Woods; and exploring the urban wildlife oasis of Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park.

18. Kids will love meeting the native and farmyard wildlife at Maryon Wilson Animal Park (pictured) and Woodlands Farm.

19. When the mercury soars, pack your swimming trunks, slap on the sunscreen and cool the family down at the Olympic-sized Charlton Lido.
