Look to the Western sky! The stars of Wicked switch on the Greenwich Meridian Line laser at the Royal Observatory, precisely where the Eastern and Western hemispheres meet, to celebrate Universal Pictures’ spectacular new cinematic event, which soars into cinemas on 22nd November.
Grammy, Emmy and Tony winning powerhouse and Academy Award® nominee Cynthia Erivo, pop culture icon Jeff Goldblum, Olivier Award winner and Emmy nominee Jonathan Bailey and director Jon M. Chu attended the magical photocall, in which, after the green laser divided the night’s sky, surrounding buildings from the Queen’s House to the Old Royal Naval College lit up green in honour of Erivo’s character, Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West.
Attention all Ozians! The Royal Borough of Greenwich has had a Wicked makeover, becoming ‘GreenWitch’ for two weeks only to celebrate the 22 November release of Universal Pictures’ spectacular new cinematic event, based on the generation-defining stage musical about the witches of Oz.
The Mayor of Royal Greenwich Councillor Jit Ranabhat, unveiled a plaque on Tuesday 12 November to launch the enchanting new name for the borough.
From now until 24 November, residents, fans and visitors to the newly named GreenWitch can collect a free map from GreenWitch Tourist Information Centre or download one at VisitGreenWitch and embark on a spell-binding walking trail, spotting magical new road signs along the way.
Visit Greenwich has won the Gold Standard Award in the Travel Trade Engagement category, at The Travel Marketing Awards 2024.
Visit Greenwich CEO, Barrie Kelly stated, “We are delighted to win this award for the first time. The award-winning entry included key results in 2023-24 of generating a 20% increase in engagement; the creation of 5 new itineraries and 5 educational/ familiarisation trips and 5.1% increase in overnight visitors.
Travel trade activity continues to be a high priority for Visit Greenwich and earlier this month appointed PM Consulting to implement a new travel trade strategy, to generate new business across the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Working with the travel trade is a key driver of the Visit Greenwich good growth plan which sets out to achieve 35% growth by 2027.
