What better way to awaken all the senses than starting your 24 hours in Greenwich by taking a cruise on the river. Hop onboard City Cruises for a different view of London’s iconic landmarks and disembark at Greenwich, full of all sorts of interesting facts to impress your friends with. Back on dry land and just a few short steps from the pier, you’ll be greeted by the famous Cutty Sark tea clipper – the fastest ship of her day. Jump onboard this iconic vessel and go on a journey of discovery about how the crew lived as you meet the cast of colourful characters, explore the decks. Don’t forget to stand beneath the ship and reach up and touch the gleaming copper hull!
After a full morning's voyage, it’s time to grab a bite to eat and refuel for the rest of the day. The famous covered Greenwich Market is just a stone’s throw from Cutty Sark where you will find foods from all over the world. Make sure to allow enough time to browse the stalls for bit of souvenir shopping and one-of-a-kind treasures. After a spot of retail therapy, you can always grab a takeaway and enjoy the glorious greenery of Greenwich Park and re-energize while you enjoy the fresh air.
If it’s sunny, what better way to explore the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site than on foot. The area is made up of stunning architecture, so take in the beautiful buildings as you head up the hill to the Royal Observatory. Don’t be put off, you’re rewarded at the top by one of the best views of London and photo opportunities that will get all the likes. Head into the Royal Observatory and be amazed as you learn about Greenwich Mean Time, before standing on Meridian Line with one foot in the West and one in the East – who knew you could time travel and be in two Hemisphere’s at once?
Next stop is Ranger’s House where you can see one of the greatest surviving private art collections ever assembled in Europe. You don’t have to be an art buff to appreciate these impressive works of art. When you arrive at the front door you may well think you recognise the building already. The exterior of Ranger’s House has recently become famous as the stunning Bridgerton House in Netflix’s smash hit Bridgerton!
On your way back into Greenwich Town Centre, make sure to stop at Old Royal Naval College – not only to admire the incredible architecture designed by Christopher Wren, but to be amazed by the Painted Hall. As Britain’s answer to the Sistine Chapel, it’s not to be missed!
It’s early evening and time to rest the legs. Climb onboard an Uber Boat by Thames Clippers and enjoy the late afternoon sun on the outside deck and take in the iconic dome of The O2 as you approach North Greenwich. At The O2 there are lots of restaurants and bars to sate your appetite, as well as ICON Outlet for a spot of last-minute shopping.
End your 24 hours in Greenwich on a real high and enjoy a Sunset Climb at Up At The O2 and make memories that you’ll never forget. The climb isn’t steep and is suitable for all abilities, the only thing you will regret is not doing it sooner.
