About

Join photographic artist Sarah Garrod for a fun Workshop in Cyanotype printing with a watery theme !

Sarah Garrod is a photographic artist presenting new cyanotype images of mermaids in the Thames.

This Victorian printing process was used by Anna Atkins to document specimens of seaweed around the UK and was one of the earliest forms of photograph. We will place plants and river/sea finds onto pre-sensitised water colour paper, and expose them to the sunshine. We remove the objects and develop the prints in water where they magically turn into blueprints ! The final stage is drying and you will be able to take your prints home.

Due to popular demand you will also have the opportunity to print a piece of fabric . The fabric would be large enough to make a glasses case or small pencil wallet. If there are people in the group who are experienced with cyanotype, Sarah can also show how to use photographic negatives, and how to tone.

Its also World Cyanotype Day on this date! So you can share your work to a worldwide audience.

Suitable for ages 18+
