Sound and Vision: Up Close and Personal
Get creative with this unique drawing club hosted by Royal Museums Greenwich in collaboration with online gallery Rise Art. Sound and Vision is back for a special limited season with both online and in person sessions.

Following the success of the online drawing club during the pandemic, it's been decided to return for one final season as part of Drawn together: A season of drawing.

Come face to face with historical objects, art, live music, specially curated playlists and specialist talks and performances from curators, artists and musicians as well as having an opportunity to respond creatively yourself!

What happens at Sound and Vision?
Sound and vision is an online club which invites the public to respond creatively to a combination of images and sound.

These special sessions will accompany our new exhibition The Van de Veldes: Greenwich, Art and the Sea at the Queen's House. The show explores the life and works of the 17th Dutch artists, Willem van de Velde the Elder and Willem van de Velde the Younger.

Each session will be inspired by a different theme. Participants will be guided around the Queen's House by a special guest to uncover the stories of items in the collection or inspired by the collection.

The guest will select or perform a selection of music or poems for the participants to respond to creatively, and share their work with the group. No prior experience of drawing is required.

Event Programme:
The Netherlands Now

350 years ago, the Van de Veldes left the Netherlands to set up their studio in the Queen's House. With special thanks to the Dutch Embassy, we are happy to have two exciting creatives from the Netherlands responding to the architecture of Inigo Jones's classical masterpiece.

This very special event can be experienced either in person or online. Please note there is a small fee (£5) for those attending in person.

Meet the Performers:
Tja Ling
- Representing the best in contemporary drawing in the Netherlands is Tja Ling, an artist whose work can currently be seen at the Het Scheepvaartmuseum in Amsterdam.

Her drawings are the way she translates and shares her explorations into the psyche, looking for answers to questions buried deep among different dimensions, be they philosophical, psychological or found in psychedelic experiences. Minute details, soft shades and playful lines invite the viewer up close, making them part of an intimate exchange open to personal interpretation. For some these soft tones and minute details echo that of Van de Velde the Elder's pen paintings.

Trippin Jaguar - Providing the sounds for this special event is producer Trippin Jaguar. Bringing together contemporary beats and cosmic synths, Trippin Jaguar will create a kaleidoscope of sounds in this unique performance responding to the history and architecture of the Queen's House.

Operating on the boundaries of the experimental and often deeper side of electronica, Trippin Jaguar combines worldly influences and musical disciplines into captivating music and performances. With the approach of utilising sound as a way to transform and elevate consciousness, he combines sound design and music production with modern technologies like machine learning and spatial audio to engage and inspire his audience.

His influences span across the globe highlighting the diversity of contemporary Dutch culture.
