It’s About Time to Reconnect with 48 Hours in Greenwich

People visiting Eltham Palace and Gardens in Greenwich

A weekend away in Greenwich. Your days and nights will be so jam packed full of exciting new discoveries and experiences that you’ll want to go back in time and do it all over again! There’s no better place to reconnect with friends, family and all your favourite people than in the home of time itself.

Your 48 hours in Greenwich may look a little like this… but whatever you do - make sure to share your time with us on social media using the #ItsGreenwichTime hashtag!

Day 1

Morning

To start your Greenwich adventure, why not reconnect with the river by stepping onboard City Cruises. You’ll spend the morning on the water, seeing all of the must-see sights from a different perspective and away from the hustle and bustle. There are lots of great photo opportunities and time to soak it all in, as well as learning some fun facts from the live commentary whilst you’re at it.

From the river to London’s best kept secret – Eltham Palace & Gardens, where you can reconnect with the local history and culture. From Greenwich, you can hop on a bus to Eltham, discovering more of the beautiful Royal Borough on your way.

Allow yourself lots of time once you arrive as there is so much to see and explore. Eltham Palace & Gardens was once a Medieval Palace, then a favoured Tudor Royal residence, before being transformed in the 1930s by eccentric millionaires, Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. This eclectic mix of ‘old meets new’ is unbeatable and continues outside into the 19 acres of award-winning gardens. Ready for a coffee fix and some lunch? Take a break in the Glasshouse Café or if it’s sunny, take it outside and relax in the rock gardens or beside the picturesque medieval moat.

Afternoon

Following the theme of ‘old and new’, from a medieval palace to The O2 – another iconic building in its own right. You can spend the afternoon browsing the shops before stopping for break at one of the many great bars and restaurants – you're really spoilt for choice here. If you’re up for something a little different, you can always do a climb at ‘Up at The O2’ and see panoramic views over Greenwich, Canary Wharf and beyond from the roof of this world-famous tent.

Evening

Enjoy the Greenwich sunset on board Uber Boat by Thames Clippers. Grab a beverage from the onboard café-bar and take in the epic views during golden hour- it makes for a special way to end the day.

Day 2

Morning

Wake up feeling refreshed and ready for another day of fun filled activities in the Royal borough of Greenwich. Take an early morning stroll along the river and head to Greenwich Market – this famous covered market is the perfect place to find some unique pieces in the many independent arts and craft stalls. It will be hard to resist a souvenir. Once you’ve browsed the stalls, grab a bite to eat in the food court. You’re spoilt for choice, so might need to allow some time to decide. Walk off your delicious brunch through the leafy Greenwich Park before turning back toward the Old Royal Naval College – not only a stunning building to be admired from the outside but also home to the incredible Painted Hall. Prepare for ‘ooohs’ and ‘ahhs’ while gazing up at this Baroque masterpiece. It’s known as Britain’s Sistine Chapel and took James Thornhill 19 years to complete.

Afternoon

After some lunch take some time to stroll through the historic Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. The unique architecture designed landscape and association with the British monarchy over the centuries are just some of the features which make Maritime Greenwich a unique and significant place. You will lose yourself as you step into the rich history and culture. Whilst enjoying your time in the town centre, make sure you complete your voyage of discovery at Royal Museums Greenwich. Visit the Royal Observatory, Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum and the Queen's House - all at the heart of Greenwich's UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Evening

Take a final stroll along the river and soak up the last of the sights. Be sure to reconnect with Greenwich and plan another trip back to this glorious part of London soon.
