Travelling on the River Thames to Greenwich makes for a scenic and memorable visit. Take a leisurely cruise to the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site or speed down the Thames on a river bus to the modern buzz of Greenwich Peninsula – it’s the ultimate way to arrive and start exploring. It’s also easy to get here by train, tube and DLR. At just 8 minutes from London Bridge, you could be here in moments! The areas of Maritime Greenwich, Greenwich Peninsula and Woolwich as well as Blackheath, Charlton and Eltham are just short trips by river, train or bus, or if you have a bike, you’re free to explore at your own pace.
Walking
With so many attractions in such a small area, the World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich is great for visitors on foot. The nearby area of Blackheath is just minutes away, and for the adventurous, a walk along the river to Greenwich Peninsula is also possible! So whether you just want to mooch around the town centre, or you’re a keen explorer, it’s a great place to wander.
Cycling

River
Take your time and relax with a bit more space and arrive on the open river! Climb aboard City Cruises or Thames River Sightseeing for a leisurely cruise down London’s historical river, taking in the stunning London Landmarks on your way to Maritime Greenwich, or hop on Uber Boat by Thames Clippers and speed down river in style. Once you’re here in Greenwich, the river is also a fantastic way to get around! London Cable Car
The London Cable Car is the UK’s only urban cable car and runs between North Greenwich and the Royal Docks. This unique journey across the river Thames takes less than ten minutes and offers fantastic views across the city. You can even take your bike on board! It’s perfect for social distancing as you need only get in a pod with members of your own household.
Train
It only takes eight minutes to get from London Bridge to Greenwich – it’s easy! Southeastern and Thameslink trains run every 10 minutes from London Bridge to Greenwich, Charlton, Eltham and Woolwich.
Travelling around the Borough? Get from Greenwich to Charlton in just 7 mins, Woolwich Arsenal in 13 mins or Eltham via Lewisham in 26 mins.
Tube
The nearest Underground station is North Greenwich, on the Jubilee line, which is just next door to The O2 and London Cable Car. It takes about 12 minutes from London Bridge, or 25 minutes from Bond Street. You can of course get here from any tube station though and change at appropriate stations en-route.
DLR
(that's the Docklands Light Railway!)
Take a Docklands Light Railway train from Bank station direct to Cutty Sark for Greenwich town centre and the museums, Meridian line, Greenwich Market and Cutty Sark. It takes about 20 minutes. There are no drivers because the system is completely automated, so sit at the front and pretend to steer!
Bus
You can travel to Greenwich on a traditional red bus – something London has been famous for since the 1930s. Getting around Greenwich is easy by bus, and this useful map will help you find your way around.
Car
With so many easy transport options for getting to Greenwich, we recommend leaving the car at home and enjoy the ride. If you need help with access, then a car is often a necessity. A list of car parks around the Royal Borough can be viewed here. There is also the ‘park and glide’ facility at The O2. You can park at The O2 for up to 4 hours absolutely free between 10am and 6pm when visiting ICON Outlet. Combine this with a river rip on board Uber Boat by Thames Clippers and you can visit The O2 and Greenwich in one fell swoop!
