About

A hidden gem, Tump 53 Nature Reserve is located next to Hawksmoor School in the Moorings.

Once used to store ammunition in World War II, Tump 53 is now a nature reserve and home to lots of local wildlife. It’s a great place for children, young people and others to learn and explore. There’s also an indoor learning space for educational sessions.

The Tump 53 Education Programme gives an opportunity for school children to link their learning from school with the natural world. Sessions are linked to the National Curriculum and delivered by experienced Outdoor and Environmental Educators. They teach about habitats and living things, minibeast hunt and pond dipping, stone age experience, team building and problem solving and map making and orienteering.
