About
Join the Blackheath Halls for a special event celebrating the publication of Blake Morrison's Two Sisters, a third memoir following the acclaimed volumes And when did you last see your father? and Things my mother never told me. He will read extracts from Two Sisters, and discuss the work with Gill Butler.
Blake started his literary career as a poet, and in the second half he reads poems from his Shingle Street collection as well as from recent, unpublished work.
He is joined onstage by The Hosepipe Band, four multi-instrumentalists, who started out and still perform as an English ceilidh band, but who in recent years have composed music to accompany poets, first Martin Newell and now Blake Morrison.
Many of the Shingle Street poems focus on Suffolk, and particularly its rapidly eroding coastline, inevitably associated with climate change. Others touch on more personal matters of love, sexuality and grief.
Blake and the band have also made a double CD of their poetry and music.
