About
A Powerful Photographic Tribute to Breast Cancer Awareness. 100 striking photographs. A project by Piluca and Anne-Marie Bickerton.
About the Exhibition
Breast cancer affects 1 in 7 women during their lifetime, with around 55,000 new cases diagnosed annually in the UK. BUSTOUT 100 is a bold and moving photography exhibition created to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support.
Hosted at Firepit Art Gallery at Greenwich Peninsula, this project, by award-winning photographer Anne-Marie Bickerton and artist Piluca, showcases 100 striking black-and-white photographs—99 women and 1 man—capturing their personal stories of strength and resilience.
In partnership with the Pink Ribbon Foundation, this exhibition celebrates diversity, courage, and community. Proceeds from the exhibition and the accompanying BUSTOUT 100 book will directly support breast cancer initiatives.
The Art and Message
The photographs in BUSTOUT 100 are intentionally simple yet deeply impactful, featuring participants of all ages, backgrounds, and stages of their journey with breast cancer.
Each image tells a story, accompanied by only minimal details like age, occupation, and bra size—emphasizing the universality of the cause. The project uses inclusive language, focusing on "chests" rather than "breasts," to ensure that everyone feels represented.
Also featured is a thoughtful animation by Piluca, starring Boo and Bee, two characters that convey important messages in a way that transcends language barriers.
