Come along to Cutty Sark this February half term, where we'll be putting on a range of fun creative events for families inspired by LGBTQ+ History Month!

From craft workshops and play boxes to character actors and trails, there's fun for the whole family on board the iconic tea clipper.

These activities are part of Out at Sea, a series of events held across Royal Museums Greenwich in celebration of LGBTQ+ history.

Programme: 

Craft Workshops
Find out about our series of special LGBTQ+ History Month activities, taking place on certain dates during February half term. These workshops are drop-in, open to all visitors and held in the Dry Dock, directly beneath the ship itself!

Saturday 15th February - Make your own Sailor Knot
Time: 11:00am - 4:00pm
A creative workshop for all ages and abilities: discover the history of sailor knots and learn how to tie some classic knots of your own, including the fisherman’s knot and the bowline knot. Use these knots to create keychains or friendship bracelets to take home.

Tuesday 18th February - Sailors' Love Tokens
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Explore the heartfelt history of sailor crafts, and create your own metallic coin inscribed with messages and images from life at sea. 

Wednesday 19th February - Nautical Tattoos
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Discover the history and symbolism of traditional sailor tattoos – did you know you could tell a sailor's seafaring story just by looking at their body art? Customise your own sea traveller characters with tattoo designs that tell your family's unique story.

Thursday 20th February - Sailors' Love Tokens
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm and 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Explore the heartfelt history of sailor crafts, and create your own metallic coin inscribed with messages and images from life at sea.

Character Actors (Friday to Monday across half term) 
Time: 11:00am, 12 noon, 2:00pm and 3:00pm
Meet colourful characters from Cutty Sark’s past and hear stories about life at sea.
Come face-to-face with Captain Woodget, chat with the cook, and even take a tour with Nannie the Figurehead! You never know who you might run into on board Cutty Sark...

Trails and Play Boxes (Available daily)
Pick up a family trail or backpack from the admissions desk and discover new facts, stories and people in Cutty Sark's life - past, present and future! 

You can also delve into our fun-filled play boxes for families hidden around the ship. From stacking blocks to party-themed props, the play boxes at Cutty Sark provide the perfect opportunity to let your imagination set sail.
