The spectacular Greenwich+Docklands International Festival returns to Greenwich this August. With events taking place across the borough and beyond, the Old Royal Naval College is proud to be hosting Greenwich Fair on 27th August and Discover Ukraine: Bit Destroyed on 26th - 29th August.
Family-friendly street arts, theatre, circus, installations and play take over the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College and Cutty Sark Gardens in GDIF’s much loved festival within a festival.
All shows are FREE and unticketed.
Taking place on the grounds at the Old Royal Naval College will be:
House of Oak and Iron (Duration: 10 mins)
Time: 2:30pm, 4:15pm & 6:15pm
- The worlds of street theatre and voguing collide in this empowering UK premiere.
Look Mum, No Hands! (Duration: 30 mins)
Time: 1:50pm & 4:55pm
Venue: Monument Gardens West
- Using a combination of theatre, movement and acrobatics, two friends play and push the boundaries of what is possible, until together they find the perfect balance of each of their limits.
Barrière
Time: 1:55pm & 4:55pm
Venue: King Charles Lawn
- Making a welcome return to Greenwich Fair, this talented Flemish circus company, also play the instruments as they perform.
Eau de Memoire
Time: 4:00pm & 6:15pm
Venue: King Charles Court Yard
- This fun, tongue in cheek show celebrates the rich experiences and memories evoked by our sense of smell.
Encounters
Time: 1:00pm, 2:30pm & 5:40pm
Time: Lewin Lawn
- In this performance installation, you have the chance of flexing your play muscles as you collaborate with others in creating a series of beautiful and unexpected images from the simplest of props.
Xics del Xurrac
Time: 1:00pm - 7:00pm
Venue: King Charles Lawn
- Do you want to be part of a “human tower”? Come and join the Xics in playful and challenging games for all ages throughout the day.
Discover Ukraine: Bits Destroyed (26th - 29th August) - FREE Admission -
Time: 8.30pm, 9:00pm, 9:30pm, & 10:00pm - (Duration: 15 mins)
Venue: Lower Ground Square
- Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage is currently under devastating attack: in response, Kyiv based photographer Yevgen Nikiforov and a Ukrainian creative team with support from the Ukrainian Institute, have designed this spectacular audio-visual artwork, animating images of 56 monumental mosaics onto the Old Royal Naval College.
Many mosaics in towns and villages across Ukraine have been destroyed since the Russian invasion and so this poignant event is an important way of ensuring that Ukraine’s cultural legacy is remembered.
