About

Mental Health Awareness Week (15th to 21st May) is a national week to raise awareness of mental health problems and promote positive mental health. The theme for this year is ‘anxiety’, so as part of the ongoing wellbeing programme, presented in partnership with Kindred Yoga, Old Royal Naval College have curated a series of seven workshops that are specifically meant to help with symptoms of anxiety.

All of the sessions will be delivered in the serene and spectacular surroundings of the Painted Hall, making it a once-in-a-lifetime, intimate experience.

Relax and re-centre with a community of kindred spirits, guided by expert practitioners. There is something for everyone, suitable for all levels, such as a Menopause wellness workshop, sound bath, breathing and meditation workshops and Mum and Baby yoga.

Event Programme:
Meditation and Yoga with Rishin Paonaskar

Date: Wednesday 17th May
Time: 8:30am - 9:45am
Join Rishin for an accessible but gently warming yoga practice that will prepare you for meditation by helping you focus on your breath, mobilise your joints and stretch and stabilise your body. The meditation will leave you feeling calm and grounded and ready to take on your day with a sense of focus.

Menopause Wellbeing Workshop and Supper with Karolina Manns
Date: Wednesday 17th May
Time: 6:30pm - 8:.45pm 
This workshop will focus on changes that take place during peri and post-menopause and what you can do about it. We will be discussing the fluctuating hormones and their impact on women’s mental health, the social and cultural attitudes that come with this, and you will be provided with the tools on how to introduce interventions long before you transition into menopause, so that the change is less of a bumpy road. The workshop will be followed up by a heart-warming supper, which is included in the  ticket price.

Yoga and Breathwork with Helen Russell-Clark
Date: Thursday 18th May

Join Helen for a very special yoga session in the magnificence of the Painted Hall. Together you will ease in with a gentle Vinyasa practice to warm up and prepare the body the session with some mindful breath-work to calm the feverous system.

Yoga and Nidra with John Collins
Date: Friday 19th May
Time: 7:45am - 9:00am
In this Yoga and Nidra session, you will start with a guided Vinyasa based sequence including familiar and advanced postures. Afterwards, you will be taken through a guided resting pose that will lead you to a place of deep and nourishing relaxation.

Sound Bath and Supper with Junior Valentine
Date: Friday 19th May
Time: 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Join yoga teacher Junior Valentine as he uses the medium of sound to take you on a cosmic journey. Guiding you through a soothing meditation with the support of gongs and bowls, Junior will help you soothe, rest and connect your mind to a new deep energetic level. Simply close your eyes and drift into a deep meditative state, allowing the unique and healing sound of the gongs in the amazing acoustics offered by the Painted Hall. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious supper, which is included in the ticket price.

Mum & Baby Yoga with Toni Osborne
Date: Saturday 20th May
Time: 8:30am - 9:45am
Senior Yoga teacher and corrective exercise specialist Toni Osborne is leading a class for postnatal women to enjoy with their babies. The class is sequenced to release tension, strengthen and realign the spine to allow deeper breathing, increasing energy and balancing the nervous system through Vinyasa Yoga practiced to music.
* This class is suitable for all levels after you have seen your GP and been advised it’s safe to practice yoga. This workshop is for non-walking babies only.

Yoga and Brunch with Rebecca Bradley
Date: Sunday 21st May
Time: 8:30am - 10:45am
Rebecca will guide you through 75 minutes of Vinyasa yoga including a balance of gentle and dynamic poses offering variations and modifications making the practice accessible for all. She will guide, support and encourage you to move your body intelligently and intuitively, creating more freedom, space, and balance in the body, mind, and soul. Finish the session with a delicious brunch that will get you ready for the day.
