Love Your Local Market

About

Give Greenwich Market some Love this May!

Greenwich Market is excited to announce the upcoming Love Your Local Market fortnight! Running across 24 countries from 12 to 27 May, this joyful festival celebrates the beating hearts of so many local communities – their markets! Trading since 1737 in the midst of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage site, Greenwich Market is without doubt the core of the Royal Borough’s community. Come down, celebrate this essential London landmark, and give it the love it deserves!

Locals and visitors from the UK and abroad are always delighted by the community, creativity and comprehensive range of art, clothes, collectibles and food they find at Greenwich Market. Love Your Local Market is a great opportunity to enjoy all this, support the traders and have a wonderful day out. Enticements include free musical performances, a huge range of traders and a festival atmosphere. Families, couples, curious solo explorers – everyone is welcome!

One of 19 London markets embracing this festival of local commerce and creativity, Greenwich Market has planned an exciting programme of events. Alongside the rich variety of stalls, stores and food trucks for which the market is renowned, visitors will be treated to free musical performances on most days between noon and 4pm.

The opening Friday, 12 May, welcomes Greenwich local George Clift, singing classic covers to the bouncing rhythm of his bass guitar. Then, the very next day, it’s the high-energy rhythms of the Bow Django Quartet, playing swing from the 1930s to the 1950s in their distinctive ‘gypsy jazz’ style. And with highlights like Ianina Pietrantonio’s Argentinian music and the soul and R’n’B of London’s Louise Golbey to follow, the quality just keeps coming! See below for the full programme. Families should also bookmark Sunday 21 May, when there will be kids’ face painting from 1-3pm.

Greenwich Market’s impressive, heritage-listed, steel-and-glass central hall will be festooned with flags and bunting, bringing pure party atmosphere. The decorations will certainly get the eclectic family of traders in the festive spirit and is sure to do the same for you. So, make Love Your Local Market your excuse to visit, embrace the party vibes and show shed-fulls of love for this iconic London market.
