This Lunar New Year, let Greenwich Peninsula be your gateway to a vibrant celebration of East and Southeast Culture. Greenwich Peninsula has partnered with artists Hannah Lim, Nicole Chui, and Yi Crafts to embark on a cultural exploration.
Discover the curated programme of events, and public displays and secure your spot to participate in both contemporary and traditional workshops and get ready to be swept up in the energising rhythm of the Dragon Dance from 1pm.
Come along to Greenwich Peninsula and welcome the Year of the Dragon, a time of new beginnings, prosperity, and good fortune.

Embark on an artistic journey with renowned sculptor Hannah Lim. In collaboration with Made by Manos, explore polymer clay techniques to craft a personalized pendant or earrings reflecting the significance of Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon. Join Yi Crafts for a hands-on workshop exploring the vibrant world of coloured woodblock prints - a cherished Chinese art form used for Lunar New Year decorations. Create your New Year Picture carved onto woodblocks using traditional tools.
Experience the elegance of Chinese calligraphy as you write wishes on red rice paper. Take home your personalised New Year Picture filled with heartfelt wishes for luck and prosperity (materials will be provided).
In this drop-in session, you will print your own New Year Picture and write wishes in Chinese calligraphy on red rice paper.
Year of Dragon Indigo Embroidery Workshop (10th February) - Book Now

Craft your own symbolic dragon with our Chinese embroidery technique workshop and welcome the auspicious Year of the Dragon in 2024.
Drawing inspiration from the rich traditions of southwestern Chinese communities, this workshop invites you to stich your own indigo dragon, a symbol not of imperial power, but of life and strength echoing through the sky and the earth (materials will be provided).
This unique creation is infused with good wishes and luck, ensuring a vibrant start to the new year.
During this 2-hour workshop, you will learn the cultural and historical background surrounding dragons and indigo textiles in Chinese communities. Learn the basic embroidery techniques and leave with your indigo dragon, carrying cultural significance and artistic flair.

Prepare yourself for the captivating excitement of the Dragon Dance, as it weaves through Greenwich Peninsula and the Design District, accompanied by the exhilarating rhythm of drums and gongs.
A vibrant tradition deeply rooted in East Asian culture, the Dragon Dance is more than a performance, it symbolises strength, prosperity, and good fortune. Believed to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings to the community, the presence of the Dragon is considered an auspicious occasion.
Join the festivities! The Dragon awakens at 1pm in Pen Square.
Nicole Chui's Contemporary Tapestry installation (10th - 24th February 2024)

Experience the vibrant world of Nicole Chui's contemporary tapestry on display at Bureau Restaurant.
This Hong Kong-born, London-based artist is celebrated for her disruptive approach to freestyle hand embroidery, breaking conventions with messy and brash creativity.
Nicole's work aims to create new memories by providing spaces for the underrepresented, inspiring others to embrace raw emotions. Selected as one of the '25 future faces 25 and under' by the Evening Standard in 2019, Nicole has showcased her art at renowned venues like NOW Gallery and Somerset House. Don't miss this chance to encounter her captivating tapestry, currently on display at Bureau Restaurant.

Mahjong, a tile-based game with a rich history of over 300 years in Asia, is gaining global popularity. Whether you're new to the game or an experienced player, this workshop offers a 30-minute demonstration followed by an opportunity to play with others.
