With miles of scenic Thames frontage to entice, it’s one of London’s premier riverside relaxation spots. Just the sound of masts clinking on boats moored at the Greenwich Yacht Club, or the sweeping views towards the Thames Barrier in the east and Canary Wharf to the west will immediately calm your senses. And peaceful Central Park is a tree-shaded oasis with historic pub, The Pilot, at its southern end.
Take a deep breath of fresh air and enjoy some time travelling on and over the river. The stately IFS Cloud Cable Car travels 90m into the air between Royal Docks and the eastern side of Greenwich Peninsula. Get there early for a cabin to yourself, and don’t forget those fabulous photo opportunities! Alight from your 360° round sky high journey and head for a relaxing trip on the river on board Uber Boat by Thames Clippers, which can take you all along the Thames and has a bar on board. Take a stroll along the Thames Path, passing through The Tide – London’s first elevated, riverside park, dotted with art by Damien Hirst and other luminaries – and The Line – the long-distance art trail linking installations in Greenwich Peninsula to the north side of the Thames along to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Greenwich Peninsula’s open spaces also include more traditional green expanses like Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park – four acres of freshwater habitat sheltering wildlife including bats, frogs, birds and insects – and the leafy oasis of Central Park. On weekends, it’s lovely to assemble a picnic from Greenwich Peninsula Market, or a takeaway feast from one of the many nearby restaurants, and just spread out here to picnic and people-watch. So relaxing!
For some serious pampering, head to the elegant InterContinental London – The O2. It’s just the place to indulge for some well-deserved me-time. The Spa is located across two floors, offering soothing treatments and massages, manicures and pedicures, pool, sauna, steam room, gym and relaxation lounge. Unwind with award-winning pastries, cakes, fine teas, and speciality coffees in the elegant setting of the lounge with breathtaking views of Canary Wharf. Make a night of it with the On Cloud 9 Package: a luxury room for two, plus spa treatments, breakfast and afternoon tea.
Greenwich Peninsula is also perfect for more active forms of wellbeing. There’s yoga, bootcamp and gym opportunities throughout the neighbourhood, and even a rooftop basketball court, open to bookings in the Design District.
